Insert style Crewe badge

Thanks to Andy Scoffin for sending me the picture of this one.  Its looks like it is one of the insert style badges common in the 70s and 80s.  Doesn't look like the highest quality of badge or design but certainly one I would like to add to the collection.

2010/11 Season Badges

A new season brings more badges but unfortunately all so far have been of the cheap plastic variety as you can see from the pictures above. I had hoped there may have been an enamel badge made for the Blackpool pre-season game or the Derby Carling cup game but it appears not.

CAFC Boot Badge

I came accross this old, beaten up badge a few weeks ago and have never seen one like it before. Its a red boot with CAFC stamped accross the middle. As always, this may have been made with Charlton in mind but there is no clear indication either way.

More kit badges - 2001/02 & 2002/03

KIT BADGE FROM SEASON 2001/02

KIT BADGE FROM SEASON 2002/03

Thanks to Dave S again for showing me these badges that are missing from my collection. To Dave's knowledge these badges along with http://crewepins.blogspot.com/2008/10/kit-badge-from-season-2004-05.html & http://crewepins.blogspot.com/2008/10/kit-pin-season-2005-06.html & the 1999/2000 badge (which I have yet to do a post on but you can see it in my collection update picture) make up the full set of kit badges ever done by Crewe for actual season kits....
Therefore we have 1999/2000, 2001/02, 2003/04, 2004/05 & 2006/07.
It seems strange that one was not done for 2000/01 or for the years since 2007.

Collection Update

Here is my collection as on May 2010. As always, if there are any you have that you cannot see on here (either for sale or just to inform me of its existence) then get in touch!

Division 2 Runners Up 2003 Badge

Cheers to Dave for this one, this badge commemorates the Alex finishing 2nd in Div 2 in 2003 and getting promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt. The badge itself is not good quality enamel like the other kit badges but its certainly one I'd like in my collection. According to Dave, this was not a club produced badge but was actually one being sold by a guy in the street on the day.

Crewe / Rangers badge

I just picked this up on my recent trip to Crewe. Not sure why it was made and by who but its a nice little badge. The Rangers logo is on the right and the old Crewe logo (minus the lion) is on the left.

Shield Badge

I already have the red badge in this set (see this post http://crewepins.blogspot.com/2009/06/new-logo-badge-red.html ) but until Dave S showed me his collection I was unaware of the white version!

Crewe Alex badge & programme shop

Just wanted to put a quick note in to say thanks to Dave in the badge shop at Gresty Road for sharing his collection with me when I was there for the Accrington game on Apr 24th. I took many photos so look out for them over the next few weeks!

If you don't know about it, the Crewe badge and programme shop is located through an unassuming door just to the left of the main ticket office. Dave has loads of badges (not just Crewe) and there are loads of programmes in there too. Pay a visit next time you are at Gresty Road for a match!

Match badges from late in the 2009/10 Season

After seemingly disappearing for a while, a few of these glass fronted insert match badges have been appearing again late in the season. I spoke to the guy who makes them and I guess he makes them only when he thinks there is a specific demand. I wanted ones for the games I recently went to and he duly obliged by saying he will do them for me.

Red & White Scarf

Not a Crewe specific badge but I always like to pick up generic red and white football badges to add to my Crewe collection. This one is a very nice red and white bar scarf badge.

CAFC badge (red and white)

Another CAFC badge similar to this one http://crewepins.blogspot.com/2009/03/cafc-badge.html but this has white letters instead of black. In the scans, the red also looks slightly different but as I only own this one (and not the black/red one) I can't be totally sure.

Missing E

Here are a couple of great pictures I received from Andrew S showing the subtleties of these round badges and highlighting the fact that a couple have been produced with a missing E. I'll let Andrew do the explaining in his own words!
"The top photograph has the white badge in the top left hand corner. Inthe top right hand corner is the same badge but with gold writing. Below isa smaller version with gold writing and next to it and you need to lookcarefully is the same badge however there is a E missing in the word CREWE.These were sent to the shop, however this is where I get confused as theywere returned and sold off to collectors all around the country. However itis a different size and colour writing to the main badge sold by the shop.
The bottom photo is pretty much the same however the red alternative/design.Again there is a Crewe badge with a missing E. The smallest badge in this lot is smaller than any of the white alternatives. "

Crewe Alex World Badge

This badge was made as a promo item for the Crewe Alex internet subscription service Crewe Alex World (since rebranded as Crewe Alex Player). It features the new logo with Crewe Alex World and the CAFC website address around the outside.

Edit: while searching through the internet I came accross the origins of this badge in an article from the Crewe Alex website back in 2004....

Bradford v Crewe Oct 2009

This one was pretty tough to find for sale individually but I eventually found one! This is one of 100 match badges made for the fixture at Valley Parade on the 10th Oct 2009 which the Alex won 3-2. The badge details the score, attendance and MOTM as well as the team logos. The badges are available as a full season set from http://www.bradfordcitybadges.co.uk/#/limited-edition-badges/4527107070 but for obvious reasons I did not want a full set - just this one!

CAFC Shamrock Badge

This is a badge I just picked up. Like all CAFC badges this one could equally have been made for Crewe or Charlton. Its a red shamrock shape on a white background with the letters C, A and F in rotation to make a continuous CAFC. A really nice addition to the collection!

FA Cup 1st Round 2009 - York City v Crewe Alex

A button badge has been made for the FA Cup 1st round game at York on 7th Nov 2009.

Interesting that they chose to use the old Crewe logo.

Miller Ball Badge

No sooner do I put up a post about this Miller Ball Badge and one appears on ebay.... Its great to finally see what it looks like in colour! And while it would have been nice to win the auction (it sold for crazy money!) at least I can now add it to the blog properly...
.. the seller detailed it as a "1930's brooch pin badge made by H.W.Miller".
If anyone has one for sale for less than £180 then get in touch!!!

Colourful logo pins

This set of six old logo badges with reversible colours has partially been covered before on the blog but now I have the full picture (cheers Andrew S). These if you note have a silver background. We think these were produced by old supporters association and its thought that they were produced in batches of 200.

Crewe v Liverpool friendly - year unknown!

Another gem from Andrew S. This Crewe v Liverpool friendly badge was bought by Andrew at Anfield from a badge seller when we played there in the Carling Cup last year. There is no date on the badge but he thinks its from the pre-season game in 2007.

06/07 Crewe v Liverpool pre-season friendly badges

Thanks again to Andrew S. for sending me pictures of these match badges from the pre-season game at Gresty Rd vs Liverpool on the 22nd July 2006. We assume there is a fourth badge with a white top and white bottom to complete the set.

More 09/10 Match Badges

Some more of the insert badges from this season.... this time Grimsby (a), Darlo (a) and Hereford (h)

Wolves v Crewe 05/06 match badges

Following on from this blog post....

... it looks like there are more Wolves v Crewe badges from 05/06 than I originally thought. Cheers to Andrew for sending me the pictures and the info. The top two in the picture I already knew about but I had no knowledge of the other two that also feature the date of the game. If its anything like the Liverpool v Crewe badges I have in a similar design then there could be as many as four variations of these rather than just the two shown.

Collection update

Just wanted to post an updated picture of my collection. If there are any you have that are not on here then I'd love to feature them on the site (if I have not done so already!) . Even better if you have one for sale too!

Very old Ball badge

This one is a picture from the AFBC directory of the oldest one of the all. Listed as Crewe badge 001, I have never ever seen one. Does anyone have it or any more info on it? I'd love a proper picture (and of course to have the badge myself too!). Its a type people call Miller Ball badges but I don't know if its an official one of those.

Liverpool v Crewe match badges 2008 (post #2)

When I did this post http://crewepins.blogspot.com/2009/04/liverpool-v-crewe-match-badges-2008.html a while back I thought I was only missing a couple of these Liverpool match badges. Turns out I was actually missing 3! I have them all now though. There were four colour variations of this design plus one version (I think) of the badge on the other post. Does anyone know of any more that were made for the game?

Old logo badge

While we are on a roll with non-enamel badges.... here is another one that came up on ebay recently. I didn't buy it (although someone did) although I was really intrigued to know what it was made of and where it had originated from? Anyone shed any light on this one?

Edit: 7th Aug 2012 : I now have this badge and its a metal badge about an inch high with the front being like a very shiny sticker.

Guinness badge

Not sure what to make of this button badge.... quite frankly it seems a bit bizarre! Why Guinness in particular? Who knows!

2009/10 Season Badges

Another new season and more of these plastic insert match badges are appearing. Looks like a slightly different size and style to last season. Again, not ones I'll be adding to my collection but I'll keep a record of them by putting them up on the site when I see them.

Liverpool Road to the FA Cup 1992

This badge was put out as part of a larger Liverpool collection celebrating all their FA Cup wins over the years. The badge for their 1992 win contains the Crewe logo as they won (4-0?) at Gresty Road in front of the TV cameras in the 3rd Round.
